- Descriptions of the different "f/x" used in the picture "DAfx Sampler 1/88".
- Please distribute this explanation with the sampler!
-
- The text at the top was typed using the Text tool and changing the pen, fill,
- and outline patterns.
-
- Picture # How to
-
- 1 Used the spray-paint can with a big pen size and black "paint"
- to make the black pattern. Then used the white pattern to
- make the top light reflection.
-
- 2 This is picture #1 with a straight "Fuzz" using the "Paint"
- paint mode. (blur)
-
- 3 This is picture #2 with the "Option-Fuzz" effect and Paint mode.
- (thickens lines and removed "noise")
-
- 4 Picture #3 with "Option-Fuzz" using the "Invert" paint mode.
- (edge detection)
-
- 5 Picture #1 using "Option-Fuzz" and the "invert" mode.
- (edge detection with no noise removed as in #4)
-
- 6 Picture #2 using "Command-Fuzz" and "paint" mode.
- (enhances "noise")
-
- 7 This was made with the roller "Mask" fully enabled and the
- diamond roller pattern. The Option key was also held down to
- use the black paint pattern. (It almost appears as water colors.)
-
- 8 The lines were drawn with the line tool and then Option-fuzzed
- with the invert paint mode. Makes a "starburst" effect.
-
- 9 Produced with the line tool while holding down the Command-key
- (draw multiple). (edge detection)
-
- 10 Picture #9 filled in with the paint bucket using the black
- pattern. Makes a "splash" or "explosion" effect.
-
- 11 Used the Pencil tool and a thick pen size. The option-key was
- held down to use the current pen size. A normal fuzz was then
- used (paint mode).
-
- 12 This "eyeball" was created using the Oval tool while holding
- down the Command-key (draw multiple). The paint pattern was
- black and the fill pattern was set to white. It was made with
- one continuous hand motion.
-
- 13 This is picture #12 with a normal Fuzz. (blur)
-
- 14 This is picture #12 using Option-Fuzz. (thickens lines)
-
- 15 This is picture #14 using Option-Fuzz and invert mode.
- (edge detection)
-
- 16 This is picture #12 using Command-Fuzz and invert mode.
- (trace edges)
-
- 17 This is picture #16 using Option-Fuzz and invert mode.
- (edge detection)
-
- 18 My name was drawn with the pencil tool and a 1 x 1 pen size.
- It was then Option-Fuzzed in paint mode to thicken the lines.
- and then Option-Fuzzed in invert mode for edge detection.
-
- 19 This was drawn with a 1 x 1 pen size and then Option-Fuzzed in
- invert mode for edge detection. The difference between #18 and
- #19 is that #19 wasn't "thickened" first.
-
- These 19 little examples don't come close to the number of "f/x" that can be
- achieved. It seems like I find new "f/x" every day. There are still 6 more
- paint modes that haven't been displayed! Nor has the "fuzz" been combined with
- images created with the paint roller and "Mask" enabled.
-
- If you don't know, DAfx is a super paint application in a DA. How many times
- have you used your database or word processor regreting the moment you have to
- quit to the Finder; start up your paint application; paste a picture to the
- clipboard; exit to the Finder; and start the application up again - just
- to get a little clipping? With DAfx, you can open MacPaint and other pictures or
- create your own right from the Apple menu. Then easily copy portions or the
- entire picture to the clipboard!
-
- Most of the basic tools of paint applications are provided along with some that
- are new to the Mac "paint world". Not to mention that DAfx can read in seven
- picture formats from four different computer systems. Other features include:
- Undo; save in MacPaint or StartupScreen formats; "turbo" grabber; grids; draw
- from center; draw multiple objects; change the pen, background, and outline
- patterns of text; limited image processing; and can be modified to suit your
- needs (with ResEdit)!
-
- DAfx requires at least 512K of memory and has not been tested on a Mac II. The
- 128K ROMs or later are needed for some "f/x". If you would like a complete
- working demo of DAfx (which can be unlocked to use its full power if you like
- it), send your name, address, and a check for $3.00 (which can be applied to the
- registration fee) to:
-
- Mi Concepts
- P.O. Box 8822
- Kentwood, MI 49508
-
- You will receive a 800K disk with the latest DAfx, 160K+ of documentation (in
- both MacWrite and MS Word 3.0 format on disk), and some other goodies.
-
- Have fun!
